Hope for chronic illness cannot be found at the doctor's office, the health food store, self-help books, or the local gym. I've tried for 25 years to find a way to manage my chronic illness. Dealing with Fibromyalgia (FM), Chronic Fatigue (CFS), Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), Irritable Bowel (IBS), Irritable Bladder, Interstitial Cystitis, (IC), jaw pain (TMJ/TMD), Burning Mouth Syndrome, and back pain has driven me to my knees. And on my knees, I have found a fuller intimacy with God than I ever would have known had I been healthier. Through my own personal growth, God has empowered me to accept the day, to apply Scripture to my situations, and to gladly seek His face.
You too can have chronic pain hope as you struggle with health issues that cannot be "fixed." The effort you make towards having a daily concentration of time with God, be it five minutes or an hour, will carry you further than all the world's strategies for healthy well-being.
Congratulations! Your decision to minister to people with chronic illness will both bless and frustrate you. As group leader, you may find yourself in need of moral support, new teaching techniques, or ways to help the hurting in your group. All God's Rx Bible studies have Leader's Guides in the back. In addition, you will find helpful ideas through my Good Tidings for Chronic Pain ministry referenced on the toolbar above. I have provided a number of resources that will help you get off to a good start. If what you need does not appear there, please contact me and let me know what support you need.
