People in chronic pain seek quick fixes from the world; God, however, reprioritizes our lives through a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Silver Bullet offers hope, encouragement, and spiritual support for people with chronic health conditions. Constructed to be flexible, Bullet provides a spiritual journey through which one discovers how God reaches beyond the quick fixes of the world – medications, therapies, exercises, seminars, mechanical manipulations, operations, and the latest, greatest cure-all potion offered by marketing enterprises – and prescribes Jesus Christ as the ultimate solution for chronic pain. Using Bullet as a devotional tool, physical pain need not be a life-stopper if one can gain freedom of intimacy with Jesus Christ.
“My experience as a licensed professional counselor with clients living in
chronic pain is that a large part of their lives are driven by their feelings.
However, scripture states, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly
things.” (Col. 3:2)
The Silver Bullet helps those with chronic pain to be in the word of God
daily, therefore creating a proper balance between dealing with the reality of
physical pain and the reality of a very present God.”
Carol L. Selander M.S., M.F.C.C.
“For me this study is the perfect amount of time spent reading, learning,
processing, praying and re-evaluating my God to my body ratio.”
Barbara Maase (suffers from Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia)
“The Silver Bullet can bless and help all of us, especially those
who have physical difficulties. It is obvious the author has experienced chronic
pain first hand. The Lord has spoken these words to her in order that we may be
healed spiritually. I highly recommend this study.”
Jenny Fahey, R.N. (suffers from Fibromyalgia)
“I love the admonitions regarding God's name, His character, and His
purposes and am on the same page where that is concerned. As I read The
Silver Bullet, I realized very quickly that my level of debilitation made
many of the practical suggestions under the heading, "In Jesus' Name" impossible
to even think about doing. This was an eye-opener as I realized I have become
pretty much home bound, with rare excursions that cost me dearly. My mind and my
heart have not been negatively affected, though, because I can only do what He
gives me grace to perform--this gives me a sense of peace. I suppose many in my
shoes would need a constant reminder to get their mind off their own belly
buttons, but my mind is focused outward, and when God gives me the ability to do
something, I do it gladly. This gives a clarity of purpose in my life: that I am
called to prayer, mainly. This must be what God wants in my life and, even
though it is at times isolating, He still is performing his purposes. But my
walk is not proactive toward others in the way your study depicts. Despite my
lack of depression, I don't even think like a normal person anymore...so many "normals"
are not possible for me at this time. I live in a new state of normal which is
both difficult (when compared to what others can do) and refreshing (when
focused on the Lord).”
Barbie Eslin (suffers from Fibromyalgia)
Q: When did you, Jonnie Wright, start writing?
A: I’ve journaled most of my adult life, motivated by my ninety-year-old grandmother who forgot who she was. I reasoned that if I kept journals I could always go back and reread them to remind myself of who I was.
Q: Why did you write The Silver Bullet?
A: In my own search for the answer to my chronic pain, I realized liberation would not happen through conventional methods such as pills, exercises, or surgeries. My life must focus on things of the Spirit since the focus on things of the flesh was not giving me any respite. In John 6:63, Jesus states, “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.” If I study more about who Christ is and allow Him to use my plethora of syndromes to His glory, my life makes sense. Otherwise, my suffering is wasted.
Q: What does the title mean?
A: Over the last 25 years I have been searching for that one quick fix, that magic elixir that would at last relieve my suffering permanently. It does not exist. Only God, through Jesus Christ, has been the final solution for living with chronic pain. The phrase “silver bullet” conveys a single, pure, one-of-a-kind solution going straight to the heart of the matter. Jesus Christ is God’s solution to chronic pain since He goes straight to the matter of our hearts.
